On 28 October, a solemn ceremony was held to present the diploma of Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic to Professor Yurii Bobalo, Doctor of Technical Sciences, the long-time Rector of our university, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, and corresponding member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Ortynskyi, Chairman of the Academic Board, Director of the Institute for Law, Psychology, and Innovative Science, opened the solemn event, emphasizing Yurii Bobalo’s outstanding achievements and contribution to the development of Lviv Polytechnic.
The event was moderated by Andrii Pavlyshyn, Head of the Promotion Center.

Yurii Bobalo is a name forever inscribed in the history of our university in golden letters. A long-time Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, and Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine – these distinctions only partially reflect the true scale of Yurii Bobalo’s personality and contribution.
During Yurii Bobalo’s tenure, Lviv Polytechnic grew into the largest university in Ukraine, with more than 33,000 students studying in 16 Institutes and 10 colleges. The university consistently ranks among the top five higher 91Ƶ in the country and, in 2024, became the absolute leader in the number of applications submitted for bachelor’s and master’s programs. Moreover, Lviv Polytechnic ranked first in the number of students enrolled on a contract basis and second in state-funded enrollment, and was also among the top three universities in terms of the number of state education grants awarded.
Under the wise leadership of Yurii Bobalo, the university secured the largest amount of funding for fundamental and applied research among all Ukrainian higher 91Ƶ. In 2024, university staff carried out 39 state-funded research projects, 27 international scientific projects, and over 200 business contracts. The university’s special fund revenues exceeded 110 million hryvnias! Lviv Polytechnic became an undisputed leader in the scope of international projects and publication activity in prestigious, high-impact global journals.
Yurii Bobalo is not only a brilliant leader but also a renowned specialist in the field of radio electronics, author of more than 350 scientific, educational, and methodological works. He is a member of the Administrative Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for the Development of Science and Technology, and served as Head of the Section of the Scientific Council in the field of Electronics, Radio Engineering and Telecommunications at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and currently chairs Specialized Academic Board. His outstanding contribution to the development of Ukrainian science has been recognized with the highest state honours: the Orders of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (III, IV, and V degrees), the Order For Merit (III degree), the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2015), and the Jubilee Medal «25 Years of Independence of Ukraine»…
