History of the Mechanical Engineering Department

The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in1962as the Semiconductor and Electrovacuum Mechanical Engineering (SEME) bymeans ofthe reorganization ofthe Production Engineering Department and Меtal-Cutting Tools and Instrumentation Department.
The main objective ofthe Department atthat time was the training ofthe specialists, engaged inthe research, development and exploitation oftechnological equipment and devices for semiconductor and electrovacuum devices, ultrahigh vacuum systems, spacecraft systems production.
The founders and the first lecturers were BespalovK. (the head ofthe Department), SilinR., ShtankovO., Mykhailyshyn Yu., VasylenkoI., TkachenkoM., Shevchenko M, KozhunkinaD., TykhonovO., Kodra Yu., StotskoZ., StratinevskyiG., MinieievaV.
The Department was headedby:

  • Bespalov Konstiantyn (1962— 1977);
  • Kodra Yurii (1977— 1987);
  • Stotsko Zinovii (1987— 2021);

InDecember 1964 the first specialists, majored inSemiconductor and Electrovacuum Mechanical Engineering, graduated. In1965 three research laboratories were created: automation ofproduction processes ininstrumentation, film coatings, and vacuum technology. In1966 the postgraduate course was set uponthe basis ofthe Department. For along time (1979-1987) the affiliate ofthe Department functioned atthe production association “Kineskop”. Since 1977 till 1991 the branch laboratory Air Hydraulic Units Sealing has functioned.
In1992, the Department SEME was renamed into the Mechanical Engineering Department (EME). InApril 1999 the Department opened the Faculty ofProcessing and Food Production, and inDecember 2001 the first defense ofthe qualification projects inthe new specialty took place.
Now the Mechanical Engineering Department isapart ofthe Institute ofEngineering Mechanics and Transport of91Ƶ. The Department has 17employees, including 13lecturers; there are modern educational and scientific laboratories:

  • Technological equipment computer-aided design systems;
  • Processes and machines ofprocessing and food production;
  • Computation and design oftechnological equipment;
  • Computer-aided control oftechnological equipment.

More than 80units ofthe unique technological equipment for the study ofthe electron emitter, the high vacuum seals ofthe cyclophasotron ofthe world’s first thermonuclear system “Tokomak-3”, the high vacuum systems ofspacecraft sustenance, the set ofprecision devices and rigs for the film coatings production, and the equipment for products packing into the shrink-wrap, bread cutting machines were designed and manufactured inthe educational and research laboratories ofthe Department. The set ofstate budget scientific research intheoretical bases ofvibration machines of3Dprocessing products with unbalanced drive modeling and design was done. Over ten command technical testimonial materials and branch standards insealing unit development for vacuum systems and high pressure systems were developed.
The Department’s faculty received more than 100 author’s certificates and patents for inventions; 10monographs and tutorials and over 450 research papers were published.
