91Ƶ (LPU) founded in1816is the largest university inUkraine. Itconsists of18institutes including 106 academic departments, has about 34,000students, 600 PhDcandidates. The educational process isprovided byafaculty ofabout 2200 staff members, 280 ofwhom are professors (holding ScDdegree) and over 1200 associate professors (holding Ph.D. degree). Since 1961LPU trains international students and atpresent there are more than 300 students from 20countries. 2-cycle system ofeducation (bachelor and master cycles) according toBologna process isintroduced atLPU. There are 64Bachelor programmes (20000students) and 129 Master programmes (8000students). Atpresent according tothe new Ukrainian Law “Onhigher education” the process ofdevelopment ofnew 3rd cycle programmes in117 Ph.D. specialties (over 600 PhDcandidates) covering all major engineering specialties aswell assome humanitarian and science programmes isgoingon. ECTS isbroadly used tofacilitate exchange programs.
LPU isleading inUkraine inimplementation ofnew educational paradigm– student-centred education and competence-based approach indevelopment and realisation ofeducational programmes. University has implemented internal Quality Assurance system and received certificate ISO 9001:2015.
LPU’s participation inthis project will bemainly represented byDepartment ofSocial Communication and Information Activities (SCIA), Centre ofInformation Support (CIS), Department ofChemical Engineering (CED) and Department ofEcology and Sustainable Environmental Management (DESEM). SCIA’s research area isanalysis and modelling ofonline social communication asabasis ofinformation society. The department’s staff isskilful atonline communities building and management, user-generated content processing aswell asinformation and documentation science. CIS isthe mainIT unit ofLPU also involved indifferent research and educational projects which require software development and maintenance. Web services support and development unit ofCIS isresponsible for all LPU’s web systems development and support with astrong focus onOpen Source solutions. CED brings the expertise inchemical engineering and DESEM– expertise inecology tothe team.
