91Ƶ, in collaboration with the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), is launching a new elective module called Sustainable and Smart Reconstruction and Sustainable Construction within the framework of the master’s program Industrial and Civil Engineering.
On 21 October 2025, an organizational meeting was held to introduce this elective block into the educational program. Students who enrolled in the master’s program in Industrial and Civil Engineering at Lviv Polytechnic in September 2025 will have the opportunity to choose this new elective course, which focuses on smart reconstruction methods and sustainable construction to support the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The module is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
Developed in partnership with the Bern University of Applied Sciences, the course is part of the Swiss project Enhancing Ukraine’s Recovery Capacities, supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Swiss Embassy in Kyiv.
The Swiss-Ukrainian Partnership for the Sustainable Recovery of Ukraine is implemented through training students in innovative approaches to sustainable construction and recovery, digital planning, circular construction, new business models, and participatory design based on the Build Back Better principles. The program offers a practical, interdisciplinary learning experience, combining academic knowledge with real recovery needs while sharing Swiss expertise from both academia and industry. The course will be delivered jointly by academic staff from Lviv Polytechnic and BFH, alongside guest lecturers from Swiss and Ukrainian companies, who will present real-world case studies and showcase their innovative construction projects.
The course is based on the internationally renowned postgraduate program CAS Rebuild Ukraine, offered by BFH in Switzerland, which brings together over 30 partners from Swiss academia and business to share the best Swiss knowledge and jointly develop real projects for Ukraine. The successful implementation of this project was made possible thanks to the active support of Professor Zinovii Blikharsky, Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, and Life Safety. A year ago, he convinced his Swiss colleagues that Lviv Polytechnic would be capable of successfully implementing their plans to share the experience of the CAS Rebuild Ukraine project in Ukraine.
