91Ƶ is one of the key locations for the implementation of the interdisciplinary project the Horizons of Science, initiated and implemented by the Lviv Society of Scientists. It is here that the university becomes a living platform for scientific dialogue, where researchers from different fields, institutions and generations can discuss complex topics clearly, professionally and without academic barriers.
The Horizons of Science project is a strategic initiative of the Lviv Society of Scientists aimed at popularizing science, developing interdisciplinary cooperation and creating sustainable relationships between universities, scientific institutions and research communities in Lviv. Its peculiarity is its inter-institutional nature: events take place at various academic venues in the city, and Lviv Polytechnic has become one of the platforms where the Horizons of Science initiative has been implemented in a systematic and sustainable manner.
Yaroslav Prytula, First Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and coordinator of the Lviv Society of Scientists initiative, plays a key role in the implementation of the project. Owing to his active involvement, the project sustains a holistic vision, openness to interdisciplinary dialogue, and a high academic standard. Within this collaboration, UCU acts not only as a partner institution but also as an enabling environment that fosters a culture of open science, interdisciplinarity, and the exchange of experience among universities.
Seminars held at Lviv Polytechnic within the framework of the Horizons of Science clearly demonstrate the practical implementation of this philosophy. During one project cycle, four popular science seminars were organized at the University’s venues with the participation of Lviv Polytechnic students, each focusing on a distinct area of modern science and its applied potential.
The diversity of topics and approaches is not accidental – it reflects the project’s deliberate commitment to integrating fundamental research with applied solutions that generate tangible social impact. Additional value is created by the dynamic discussion format, moderated by representatives of the Lviv Society of Scientists. Within this open forum, physicists and chemists, engineers and physicians, university lecturers, researchers from academic institutions, and early-career scientists engage in dialogue as equal participants.
Within the project Lviv Polytechnic acts not only as a hospitable location, but also as an active participant in the process with its own speakers, scientific schools and organizational involvement. The coordinator of the events at Lviv Polytechnic is Oksana Balaban, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Physics and Nanomaterials Science.
Cooperation with the Lviv Society of Scientists, the Ukrainian Catholic University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, institutions of the NAS of Ukraine and other academic and medical institutions of the city has resulted in the formation of a broad network of scientific collaboration.
In this format, the Horizons of Science evolves beyond a series of seminars into a sustainable platform for scientific communication, where Lviv Polytechnic plays a key role as a center for openness, expertise, and interdisciplinary thinking. This initiative exemplifies how the joint efforts of universities and scientific communities can not only promote science but also cultivate a culture of cooperation that contributes to the future development of Ukrainian science.
